Suspension/Expulsion Policy
 
Player’s Code of Conduct
As a youth lacrosse player in Lakers Lacrosse, You are expected to come to your practices and games on time, ready to play and improve your individual skills and team play skills.
 
Coach’s Code of Conduct
As a youth lacrosse coach in Lakers Lacrosse, you are expected to come to your practices and games on time ready to coach, ready to improve your players’ individual skills and team skills, and ready to make your time with your team an enjoyable one for all. You are expected to give your players positive reinforcement and a fair amount of playing time. You are expected to have a thorough understanding of the rules as they pertain to the youth game.
 
Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct
As a youth lacrosse parent in Lakers Lacrosse, you are to understand that during practices and games, you will be asked to watch the action away from the players’ benches and on the other side of the field. If you are a vocal parent, cheer good plays made by either team.
 
Official’s Code of Conduct
As a youth lacrosse official in Lakers Lacrosse, you will be expected maintain control of the game by demonstrating consistent judgment, having a thorough understanding of the rules as they pertain to the youth game, and maintaining optimum field position. You understand your role in interpreting the rules of the game to identify “offenses” that would be part of Lakers Lacrosse Code of Conduct Policy. You understand the Lakers Lacrosse Program and the Executive Committee may call you upon to serve as a witness to the actions that led to an offense and answer questions posed.
 
ALL
You are to understand that a high level of sportsmanship is expected. You are expected to treat your coaches, players, officials, opposing team players, coaches and spectators with respect and dignity. Understand that unsportsmanlike conduct such as taunting, the use of foul & abusive language, or fighting is grounds for ejection from a game, and you will be asked to remove yourself from the area. Consider it an honor to be part of the great game of lacrosse.

The following rules highlighted in Red are single offenses that would be applied to the code of conduct and suspension/expulsion policy. The official is the arbiter of what constituted the offense. NOTE: The Executive Committee reserves the right to change or modify this policy at any time to protect the safety of our players and opponents.
 
Rule 1.
Personal fouls are those of a serious nature: illegal body checking, slashing, cross checking, tripping, unnecessary roughness, unsportsmanlike conduct and the use of an illegal crosse.
 
PENALTY: The penalty for a personal foul shall be suspension from the game of the offending player for one to three minutes, depending on the official’s judgment of the severity and perceived intent of the personal foul. The ball shall be given to the team fouled. However, if a player/coach is assessed two, three minute penalties for unnecessary roughness in a single game it is considered an offense within this policy.
 
Rule 2.
No player, substitute, non-playing member of a squad, coach or anyone officially connected with a competing team shall:
  1. Enter into an argument with an official as to any decision that has been made or in any way attempt to influence the decision of the official
  2. Use threatening, profane or obscene language or gestures at any time during the game
  3. Bait, taunt, call undue attention to oneself, or any other act considered unsportsmanlike by the officials
Rule 3.
Any player who accumulates three personal fouls, regardless of the penalty time accrued, shall be disqualified from the game.
 
Rule 4.
A player, substitute, coach, non-playing member of a team or anyone officially connected with the team shall be disqualified for:
  1. Deliberately striking or attempting to strike anyone or leave the bench area during an altercation
  2. Use of tobacco, smokeless tobacco and/or illegal substances (tobacco use for adults is forbidden during practices and games)
  3. Second non-releasable, unsportsmanlike foul
  4. Any action deemed by the officials to be flagrant misconduct
PENALTY: Three-minute non-releasable penalties and ejection for the remainder of the game. The ejected coach must be removed from the premises (bench and field area). The ejected player, substitute or non-playing team member must be removed from the premises.
 
Rule 5.
Technical fouls are those of a less serious nature than personal fouls and include all violations of the rules of the game except those specifically listed as personal or expulsion fouls.
 
Rule 6.
A coach shall not enter the field of play without the permission of an official, except to attend to an injured player, to warm up a goalkeeper, or during half time. This rule does not apply to Boys’ U11 or Girls’ Grade 3/4 where coaches are permitted on the field of play.
 
Rule 7.
A player, coach or other person officially connected with a team shall not:
  1. User artificial aids in communicating with players on the field
  2. Leave the bench area and/or coach’s area on his/her side of the field. Players shall be within the confines of the bench areas while the clock is running and the ball is in play, except when reporting to the substitution area or for serving penalty time.
  3. Object to an official’s decision by arguing or gesturing.
Suspension/Expulsion Guidelines

1st Offense
  • Meeting with coaches and parents to discuss incident. 
  • Verbal warning followed by written warning that will be acknowledged by signature of parent/guardian, player and coach.
  • In the case of fighting, visually and/or verbally demonstrating signs of dissatisfaction with official's decision, player will be suspended for a minimum of one week of practices and games.
  • Depending on severity of incident, additional or more severe punishment could be administered inclusive of suspension and dismissal from program.
2nd Offense
  • Meeting with coaches, Lakers Lacrosse officials and parents to discuss incident.
  • In the case of fighting, visually and/or verbally demonstrating signs of dissatisfaction with official's decision, player will be suspended for a minimum of one week of practices and games.
  • Depending on severity of incident, additional or more severe punishment could be administered inclusive of suspension and dismissal from program.
 3rd Offense
  • Meeting with coaches, Lakers Lacrosse officials and parents to discuss incident.
  • In all cases, a third incident will be punishable by expulsion from Lakers Lacrosse for the season without refund.
